Hi! I’m Sunny Kang
Hi! My name is Sunny Kang and I’m a Korean-American first-year student who’s studying Applied Physics and Robotics Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
I am passionate in integrating my understanding in STEM subjects with my creativity to engineer and create technologies that serve purposes in people’s lives. There is nothing more exciting than taking what you learned in and outside of school and applying them to a piece of work, out of your own hands.
I also love studying the fundamentals of our world, literally, from the universe to the smallest particles we can’t even visualize. I like to describe learning physics as mastering the alphabets of nature and studying physics as solving an infinite crossword puzzle with the exception of the rule that you get to create new words out of those alphabets as long as they fit with the rest of the puzzle.
WHO AM I?
-
Experiencing diverse cultures and interacting with people from an extensive range of backgrounds has been a profoundly transformative and invaluable part of my life, shaping me into the person I am today. Due to my parent’s work, I spent my childhood and adolescence moving between different countries: South Korea, Hong Kong, Pakistan and the US. It gave me an opportunity to be exposed to a wide range of languages, customs, and traditions, allowing me to develop a unique perspective on the world. Certainly, there were challenges, such as navigating different educational systems, making new friends, and adjusting to new cultural norms, however, this taught me adaptability in new environments and appreciation of the differences in every human being.
Most importantly, it shaped me as a person who values and aspires to harmonize diversity to advance innovative ideas beyond conformity. I have learned to see the strength in bringing together different perspectives and leveraging our differences to create positive change. This mindset has become a core aspect of my identity and guides my actions in my personal and professional life.
